About Us

Chemdat Yamim – Hakrayot Masorti Congregation

Chemdat Yamim is a Masorti Conservative Congregation affiliated with the Masorti (Conservative)

Movement in Israel. Our aim is to practice Judaism in a pluralistic, egalitarian fashion in which the whole

family is included in our activities. All this is in accordance with 'Halachah'.

Our vision

Our congregation believes in serving all members of our society both from the religious aspect and the general cultural aspect of Judaism, thus combining faithfulness to Judaism, Zionism and Democracy.
Our activities are based on the ideal of “Tikun Olam”, acceptance of those whom may be rejected by other streams of society and helping with the personal needs of our members and also, if required, reaching out into the wider field.
It is important to note that in a population of quarter of a million people residing in the Haifa suburban townships (known collectively as The Krayot), Chemdat Yamim is the only non-orthodox synagogue.

Our members

All our activities are based on the volunteering of our members.
The people who formed the congregation, all live and have raised families in the Krayot. This place is our home and we know it well.

Our works

Jewish celebration
The synagogue is active all year long for ritual and prayer services.
Our services for Friday night's Kabalat Shabat, Shabbat morning services and Chagim (the festivals) are carried out successfully as a result of the impressive number of volunteers in our congregation assuming a host of roles.

Our congregation also organizes special open events in honor of Chagim (the festivals), such as Open services for Yom Kippur, Purim Megilah reading, Tikun Shavuot and Tisha Be'Av Kinnot
Community
Chemdat Yamim members undertake a number of projects within Kiryat Bialik.
The first is the work we do in preparing the boys and girls at "Ahava" Children and Youth Village, a local safe haven for children at risk, for their Bnei and Bnot Mitzva ceremony. During this period of preparation the children prepare for their special day and participate in services at our synagogue on a Friday evening.
A second example of our assistance to the wider population is our joint project with the Kiryat Bialik Municipalty whereby our members meet with a group of physically challenged adults in sessions of enjoyable lessons and talks on a wide range of Judaic subjects.
Interfaith community project
A third special project, is one whereby our women members meet with non-Jewish women in dialogue, with the hope of gaining better understanding of the 3 (Jewish, Christian and Muslim) religions and cultures with the ultimate aim of achieving a more peaceful co-existence.
